Royal Navy Newborn Photography Session

This session was a little close to my heart as I'm ex-Navy myself and I absolutely love getting clients in that are either in the military or are a military family. Although I have photographed a few sessions with those who serve in the Royal Navy, I've never had a client who brought along their ceremonial Number 1 dress.

I was so excited for this session and baby Isaac at just 12 days old performed like the perfect little model - he slept well, posed fantastically and he pee'd AND pooped on me just before this shot! He was so incredibly relaxed so it's to be expected and it's perfectly normal for these little accidents to happen.

He made the sweetest little snuffly noises when I'd posed him in this nest so I think mum and dad might have a little chatterbox to contend with when he's older!

All newborn sessions are bespoke and designed around you and your baby. You choose the colours and I'll design the setups and I even hand make every little outfit for your new arrival. For me, that just gives it a personal touch and I absolutely love being at my sewing machine and getting creative! Here are a few of the little outfits that I make for my tiniest clients.

As a newborn photographer, I take safety extremely seriously so you will find that I am fully trained as a newborn specialist and carry full public liability insurance. Every single one of my sessions I am always thinking about your baby's safety throughout, so you can see in this pose, Dad's hand is either on baby or literally just above it. When I pose your baby in any props, I will always have mum or dad close by, within an arm's length.

Home life of a photographer

Well, at least my home life as a photographer anyway. I'm a mum of one beautiful 2 year old boy who is the light of my life. I'm not going to go on and on about him here so it's not one of those posts. I had a newborn session this week and one of my clients was really open and honest about a lot of things but which is so lovely and makes a refreshing change. We were chatting about businesses and why I became a newborn photographer, you know, "that" chat. So, I explained my reasons and it will come as no surprise to many of you that my main influence was my son. As I said, this client was very open and honest and asked me how often I got to photograph my son. Of course I photograph him all the time but I realised that I'd only had one of my images printed on a canvas in the hallway. At least only one as a professional photographer. It sort of hit home with me after the session, about how I bleated on about how important it was to exist in photographs for your children and how important it was to sometimes capture those little moments that inside a studio you just don't or can't achieve. What I'm trying to get at is, that I don't take enough natural lifestyle shots of my son unless it's with my iPhone and where's the fun in that when I've got a pretty decent camera lying downstairs in the studio that could do a better job. So, today, I grabbed that camera of mine and it went everywhere with me throughout the day capturing my little man and his little quirky personality. I intend to do this more often and not only that, I want to offer it to my current clients and future ones. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the studio work I do and wouldn't change that but sometimes it's just refreshingly different to capture a family (or my son in this case) on a more personal level. I can't wait to print these and have them hanging on my walls in the house. These are the moments I will treasure the most.

First newborn of 2017!

I welcomed the New Year in by capturing beautiful 3 week old Zachary. He was so gorgeous and incredibly well behaved! He made the most adorable little expressions when he was awake and we even managed to capture a sleepy smile. Here are a couple of images and a short video of some of my favourites from his session.

Newborns are best photographed between 5-14 days old when they are their most sleepy and I can still place them in some of the curly poses. Of course, it's still possible to capture some gorgeous images when they are slightly older as you can see below.

You can book your newborn photography session at my studio here in Yeovil as early as your 20 week scan.

Thank you!

Although I've not quite made it full circle to a full first year in business, I have to say, what an incredible journey it has been! I've learnt so much from my wonderful casting call models so thank you so much for the opportunity to practise and perfect my photography with your beautiful babies and children.

So here's to 2017! A new year, one that will bring my business plan into full action wit a little surprises for everyone along the way - I have some new packages and a couple of new and exciting twists to add to the business. I'm so excited about it I could squeal!! All will be revealed as we enter the start of the New Year.

Thank you again and may 2017 bring you all hope, happiness and love.

12 day old newborn photography session at Belle Bebe Photography, Yeovil SOmerset

This gorgeous 12 day old newborn baby boy visited me in the studio today with Mummy and Daddy. He was so very good and allowed me to get through all of his parents' chosen setups as well as a few props. Daddy practises skin-to-skin regularly and baby definitely showed where he felt the most comfortable when he felt like a quick pee! Here is an outake of a third little tinkle on daddy!

Newborn sessions at Belle Bebe Photography are best booked as soon as after your 20 week scan. This is due to sessions being limited because of their duration as they can last anything from 2-4hrs depending on how settled baby is. I photograph newborns from 5 days up until 6 weeks but I do find they tend to sleep and are posed better the earlier we can get them in. The ideal age is between 5-14 days but I understand this may not always be possible due to various reasons post birth.

I’ve Joined BANPAS!

As a newborn and baby photographer, I have to take the safety of my little clients very seriously.

It might surprise you to know that the newborn photography industry is completely unregulated. Photographers like me, who take safety seriously, have to take it upon ourselves to be trained and educated on how to ensure the beautiful images we create, are done safely.

For example when you see a beautiful image like this

Belle Bebe Photography Newborn Baby Photographer Yeovil Somerset

You may be forgiven for thinking that the baby here was unsupported but actually I created this image using one of the parents to support baby's head and then their hand was removed by editing.

Here are some of the ‘before’ images used to create the final portrait.

Being a newborn and baby photographer requires a unique set of skills and there is a worldwide organisation that exists to support photographers like me, who want to have access to safety training and resources that we can use to provide clients like you with a better service.

I’m delighted to have joined BANPAS (Baby &Newborn Photography Association) and you will be able to find me on their directory of photographers here They also have a fabulous facebook page for pregnant and new parents here

I’d be delighted to chat to you about how I can create a beautiful gallery of images for your newborn and very happy to chat to you about how I do that safely. Please contact me for booking and availability information.
